Miriam and Natapon’s Cozy Fall Newborn Session at Liberty Park


This session with Miriam and Natapon (we call him Spencer), who we’ve known since our college days, was one of those shoots that just felt right from the moment we arrived at Liberty Park in Clarksville. They were excited to see me again, even though Mo could not make it, and the whole evening had a warm, familiar energy. The goal was a cozy fall newborn session, and Liberty Park, with its fall colored trees, delivered the perfect backdrop.


We set up on a soft patch of grass as the sun started dipping low, giving us that gentle evening light that makes everything look soft and calm. Once I laid out the blanket and props, I told Miriam and Spencer to imagine they were having a little fall picnic with their newborn and to forget that I was there. Instantly, the session shifted. They began playing with their baby, talking to her, cuddling her, and she lit up. She smiled, kicked her legs, and soaked in the attention. It was the kind of moment you cannot pose. It just happens when a family is truly in their element.

Their outfits matched the season perfectly. Spencer wore khaki pants with a maroon pullover, the baby had a burnt red/brown skirt with a white top, and Miriam wore a neutral plaid skirt. With the blanket from T.J.Maxx layered underneath and filled with tan, burnt orange, dark green, and deeper tan accents, everything blended into a perfect fall palette. I added a neutral acorn pillow, a rectangular bowl filled with fake pumpkins, and a string of fall leaf garland to complete the scene. Nothing felt forced. The props supported the vibe without distracting from the family.

This session meant a lot to them. Miriam shared how she was in a car accident while she was pregnant and how terrifying the wait for the ultrasound was. At first, one side showed no heartbeat, and then the tech checked the other side and found it. Their relief was overwhelming. Moments like that shift how parents see their newborn. They see every smile and every tiny breath differently.


Shooting later in the evening gave us the perfect soft light. No harsh shadows, no heat, and nothing that would make the baby uncomfortable. She stayed content the whole time, which let us focus on genuine interactions and natural moments.


My favorite part was simply being around them again. They are wholesome, easy to talk to, and full of warmth. We caught up between shots and talked like no time had passed. By the end of the session, we were already making plans to hang out again.


This session was a reminder of why I love what I do. Real families, real stories, real moments. Exactly the kind of shoot that makes the work meaningful.
